Swimmers have been warned to stay away from amorous dolphins in the UK. They have been cutting women out from herds of swimmers and luring them off shore for a good time.

Anths Stat for the Week - The first submarine telegraph was laid to Tasmania in 1859, only 9 years after the first submarine cable laid anywhere in the world.

Anth went sailing with students - and they all found out a lot of new things from their day on the Kyena on Port Phillip Bay. They saw seals, crabs, gannets (which they also smelt!) and were challenged by the idea of male seahorses as the carriers of the brooding young!

Thanks to Alex from the MDC, Ivan of the Kyena, Sonya Mulholland from MHS and the entire year 11 Biology class from MHS.

Sailors starting getting tattoos of sharks to ward off sharks in case they were shipwrecked - Around the 16 Century the sailors were getting tattoos for a range of different reasons, including to ward off evil and also what they saw when they visited other countries.

The marine theme is now moving away from anchors, to marine creatures - dolphins are a popular option - but a whole range of different creatures are starting to to be used - octopuses seem to be emerging as the next trend, especially because of what you can do with the tentacles

So we are having a competition for listeners - design your own tattoo, and the prize? You will get it done!!

Follow the link to our competition page to enter.

At 1.56 or 1.58am on the morning of Thursday 13 June (we are now arguing about the last 2 minutes in a 10 year campaign !!) the Marine National Parks Bill was passed in Victorian State Parliament. We are now a world leader in terms of marine conservation. 5.3% of the Coast will be protected, and will come into effect on 16 November, and will be managed by Parks Victoria.

And for those of you who thought the party on air was a bit weird - you should have seen the hats !!

Crack the champers and get ready for the real party on November 16 - a Saturday

"It is beautiful - the ocean is dead flat and foggy. It is still 15 C in the water, and that fact that there are very few people in the water means you are all a bunch of wooses"
