The Marine Discovery centre has started their holiday program on the 23rd until October 5th. Bron wants to go to the art activities where you get to wear a smock, and Peter is keen on the who eats who. For more information or to book call in on 5258 3344.

Anth's stat of the week - is on lighthouses. The Lighthouse at Cape Wickham is 40 m high (a southern hemisphere record) and a light range of 23km. It was build after a shipping disaster that cost 400 lives. We have 32 lighthouses in Vic, 17 of which can be seen 15 nautical miles away!

A German is claiming a world record for cycling 4.2 km underwater in around 3 hs and 15 min. His bike was made of lead to make sure it stayed on the ocean floor. Will he be in round the bay in a day bike ride in October ?

The Latvian oil spill response team used popcorn as a dummy for oil spills in the Baltic sea - how much did they order, was it salted or buttered, and did they get coke with it.

The Cuttlefish is one of those creatures that is up for the Marine emblem. Follow the link to get all the info on this beautiful marine creature.

The tattoo competition has been judged and we have winners.

Penny of Footscray won the "Already Done" segment with a tattoo of a clown fish. Penny really like how versatile they are with the lifestyle - especially the ability of them to be able to change sex when needed.

Honorable mentions went to Michael for the mechanical octopus, and Shane for a design based on an aboriginal print, a necklace and the Bells Beach toilet.

Elizabeth has won second prize with an image of a giant squid holding a teddy bear - a reminder of a childhood event of migration to Australia when she dropped something overboard on the assisted passage to Australia.

Maree won first prize with a design of a fish called Esmerelda - a derivative of a piece of work done for a mural at Kinglake.

Watch this space to listen (huh?) to how they go through the tattoo process.

Cycling under water - why would you ? The diving is surprisingly nice. Sun is out, wind is OK . The water temp is about 12, and the pick of diving is at the front. But Brett is off to QLD next week (lucky sod!).
