Both Bron and Anth are in the studio - Bron recovering from near death, and Anth recovering from Community Cup footy training. Weather forecast could only be described as gross (possible hail and thunder).

Anth is playing in the Community Cup, probably in a wetsuit, and Bron will be selling raffle tickets.

The collective noun for sea fowls is a cloud and you get a squabble of seagulls

If you think you have spotted a breach of the new Marine Park fishing rules, or people taking above the limit - don't approach them, call the fisheries compliance unit - a 24hr dob in a fish thief line on (03) 9483 4283.

All of toady's music is written by Antonio Carlos Jobim - a tribute because Anth wanted to (not the crap he spouted on air)

Barry Hayden is a Marine Planner in Victoria's West and of our western most park - about 20 km west of Portland. It was named Discovery Bay by the explorer looking for Victoria, kind of forgetting the indigenous people had already found it. It is an important area because of the basalt reefs, cultural values, dunes, coastal cliffs and a fair amount of visiting wildlife like whales, great whites and fur seals.

The great south West walk is a great way to see the park, it follows the land boundary. You are up above the water in the cliffs, walk past middens, see Gannets, seals and hooded pluvers nesting.

The diving is great, but very exposed so pick the right conditions, and the surfing is great for the experienced surfer, but just walking the tracks is a great way of getting the full southern ocean experience

Head down and stay in Bridgewater, Portland or the many B and B's in Bridgewater Bay.

NORFANZ was a just a big boat trip between Australia and NZ looking for things underwater on the sea mounts and ridges formed as the two countries were torn apart by continental drift.

The team samples at 3 depths - 500, 1000 and 1500 m, and they found at least 100 new species of invertebrates.

While 2/3 of the plants surface is deep sea, less is know about it that than moon.

Light plays an interesting role - from the angler fish which uses light to attract prey, and other fish that use light organs underneath to try and counteract the shadow they would cast with the light above ?

Watch out for the slickhead - it just swims about with a sticky head, collects food on the sticky stuff, and promptly eats it. The human equivalent is not really worth thinking about.

There will be two public meetings, one on Wed June 25 and Thursday June 26 to provide a opportunity for people to provide input into the management plans being developed for the Gippsland marine national parks.

Contact Parks Victoria on 13 19 63 for more information

The drought has been a major problem for the in-land fisheries with many of the typical fishing spots impacted by the reduction in flows.

Port Phillip Bay is like glass and the weather is wonderful at Rye - again. Brett is in hiding - awaiting his next bomb threat. The water temp is dropping (12 C) but since we have had the shortest day it may not fall too much further. We are sure that Brett is off the therapy and his weather report is correct!
