Anth is down at the Port Fairy Folk Festive so Bron is running solo in the hot seat. She managed to plug the weather forecast twice !

This week is seaweek - with a big focus on marine education. Get out there and take part to find out more about the water world around you.

The collective noun of the week is for the Penguin. There are 5: colony, rookery, creche, huddle (cute) and Parcel (my favorite).

The ACF Green Building is having an open day on Sunday 16th to see how to make workplace's more sustainable - call 9345 1111 to get more info

Seachange has changed Barwon Heads forever - who knows if it was for the better or the worse.

This week is Festival of the Sea in Barwon Heads - something that arose from the local community and its desire to come together to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the marine environment. Activities vary from seminars and the sustainable living expo - on in the main street on Saturday 15th. For more info contact Antony Mangelsdorf.

This year there is a focus on the intertidal area, esp because of the recently declared National Park - with an array of local and regional experts helping. If you want to take part on Wednesday, contact Dianne Moore on 5226 4669 at Coast Action Coast Care.

The Australian Marine Conservation Society is running a free seminar on Wednesday at InfoZone at the Museum. It will feature a wide range of information and images about the sea, featuring Andre Chiaradia (Phillip Island's 'Dr Penguin'), Wendy Roberts (Reefwatch), and Harry Breidahl.

Harry went diving - 250 km offshore and down to 1km. It took about 16 hours to get out to the dive site, and Harry was amazed by the jellyfish down there. They are about 40 m long, have multiple stomachs and poisonous venom. Research is being carried out to understand the ecosystem down there, and the jellys seem to feed of the same organisms our fisheries depend on. Some organisms were recovered and survived and Harry was able to study them and photograph them for about 24 hrs.

Harry got so excited about it all that sometime this week he and the kids of St Leonards will be launching their submersible model into the aquarium. Harry was also a bit passionate about doing this research in Australia.

Guy joined Bron in the studio to talk about the March edition of AS, which focuses on Corals, the Great Barrier Reef, and the role of Heron Island in groundbreaking new international research.

"Diving from the canoe - just as easy as a float to tow around and boats don't run you over." Diving is great between Rye and Portsea and all the rest of the sate is crap
