Happy Father's day to all out there that qualify! This morning we have Bron, Anth and Pete in the studio, paying Tim Thorpe (Vital Bits) the homage that he so truly deserves, as well as discuss all manner of things mariney.

Pete brings us news of two sports colliding - skydiving while dressed as snorkellers! Fins, masks, the lot! This events took place at the appropriately named "Funny Farm",a Queensland venue used for skydiving. A prefect complement to the latest Welsh Bog Snorkeling championship.

The EPA has fined Shell $10,000 for an oil spill into Corio Bay.

EPA has also filed charges against a German company (NSB) and a number of German nationals for an oil spill off Southern Victoria about 6 months ago.

Japanese scientists have bred salmon... from trout! Sounds weird? Not sure about using the cells of one fish to breed another.

Redmond joined Bron at the Triple R studios this week to chat about his new book"Trawler", about his experiences into the North Atlantic on a deep sea trawler. The book follows his experiences aboard, from the harrowing (and often hilarious) nature of life-at-sea, to incredible descriptions of the obscure animals that were dredged from the deep.

With no experience at sea, Redmond chose to pursue this 2 week voyage into a hurricane in the waters between Scotland and Iceland 'to see what he could see'. Redmond regaled us with some of these stories, and spoke about the lives, quests for love and challenges facing the trawler fishermen of the vessel Norlantean. Redmond also surprised Bron with a couple of mementos from the trip, including a hagfish, a recovered piece of a mast estimated to be 200 years old, and the eye of a guernard, the eye being the size of a cricket ball, the whole fish being only 1 foot long.

Many thanks to Redmond and his publisher Penguin who were good enough to give us two copies of the book to give away to Anna of Sunshine and Tim of Brunswick.

Up early for a Father's Day swim with his son, Brett says the weather's fantastic, anywhere in the bay is good for diving, water temperature slowly climbing back up, currently at about 11.5 degrees.
