Justin Kemp is in the green room with Anth and Bron is off in the country. Anth did the weather and it was bad (not the weather, just the telling).

This show was dedicated to surfing, and links to Surf like you stole something, on RRR as a Bells Beach Easter Treat

At the moment every dive site on the ocean is a bloody surf site - Bells Beach is a great dive site when it is not being surfed. The reef is great (esp the crays) and is almost pristine, as it is more of a surf venue that a dive spot.

Rye is great on the 4 days a year that you can get past the waves.

The big winds that blow around the southern ocean make the swell that rolls into Bells Beach. The ones that are 16 seconds apart are the best - clean and deep. The water just goes up and down and the energy moves towards the land. As the water gets more shallow, the energy gets compressed and results in the waves getting taller to the point where they break.

Kerry has toured the world and surveyed the worlds best breaks to work out what was needed to build a reef, and they have been doing this for a living.

Now he is doing it in pools, and the only hard bit is getting a nice crisp wave, but right now he has a 1/8th model that has perfect 30cm barrels. And if you want to change the wave, just dial up a different setting and wait a minute

Sarge started taking pics from in the water, but then discovered that taking the shot from the beach played to his strength in manual focus pulling. The beach shot is a bit more one dimensional that one taken in the barrel with the surfer. But it is a bit safer and has produced some of the most amazing photos of his career.

The advent of the big 600 mm autofocus lenses made a big change to the industry, with the number of people wanting to take surfing photographs going to an all time high.

Digital technology has made a bit of a difference especially to video. Sarge's Surfing Scrapbook is the great video series released since the mid 80s. It's up to Vol. 10 now.
