Dive Report

Anth, Bron and Dave are in the studio for the last time for the year - and this studio for ever !! Bron's weather report was highlighted by Bron being confused by nanometers and nautical miles, and the running commentary of species in Deep Blue at her local cinema.

Today we also announced the winner of the PADI diving contest. Congratulations to Di, who gave the following as her reason for wanting to dive:

"I would like to dive underwater and find a fish with feet. The Coelacanth was discovered in 1938, but we have not yet found a fish whose extra fins have tiny toes attached. There must be other survivors of the Devonian era, the missing link fish - the first to walk"

For the final competition of the year, we asked listeners to ring in and tell us what we should be doing over the summer holidays:

"Take Brett's advice, and get out there and get wet!"

"Get out there and explore the Port Phillip Bay heads before the channel deepening process destroys it forever!"

"Help me paint my house" Hmmm. - Congrats to Vince and Kylie for their winning suggestions.

Looking for some good literary pressies with a marine bent this Christmas? Dave delves back into some of the books we've heard about throughout 2004.

"Gentle Revolutionary", a biography of Tasmanian Greens leader Bob Brown

"Going Native - Living in the Australian Environment" -

"Life along land's edge - Wildlife on the shores of Roebuck Bay, Broome" by Rogers et al.

"Life of Pi" - check out Daves earlier review

"Rowing to Alaska and other True Stories" by Wayne McLennan (Granta)

Congratulations to the winners of the two books - Lou and Charlie

Huge things are in store for the summer down in Queenscliff, made all the more exciting for the fact that they are now in their new building! Located on the shores of Swan Bay, and replete with birdhide, a wonderful range of new tanks and classrooms - definitely a wonderful venue for the summer ahead.

Rockpool rambles, Marine Biology Cruises, Kid's craft activities, snorkels - the range of activities over January is mind boggling.

Brett joined us for one final time in 2004, to tell us the water is clear, it's warming up (currently 17 degrees) and we should be set for a great summer's diving.
