Anth and Dave are driving the boat today (Bron is having a break), so Anth went straight to the weather. Sounds like a great day to go sailing or sleeping on the couch. Dave has been to see the Day After Tomorrow. The premise is that one of the major conveyor currents (ie the gulf stream) suddenly stops. Dave says don't bother going for the entertainment value, but it is interesting to see the degree of documentation for extinction where we have done nothing.

The next seastar collection is on in another week, so contact DSE for more details.

And watch out for the disappearing wrecks of Queenscliff Jetty. Anth found an old notice to shopping from August 1862, indicating the buoy making the wreck of the Lady Harvey was being removed, as the wreck had disappeared !

Anth has become interested in Triremes since the release of Troy (the movie) and although nobody has every seen one from the era. The Persian fleet suffered 5 major disasters trying to enslave the Greeks.

New Zealands first underwater billboard is in a lagoon in Wellington, to try and reduce the pollution in the water. Unfortunately you don't have to be in the water to see it.

The official naming ceremony follows the sea trials that Dave sailed on - The boats patron, Andrew Denton, will do the honors today, even though he admitted he had no idea why, but he liked the cut of their jib !

The Pelican 1 is a 63 ft cat, based on a UK design that had to be totally redesigned to pass a marine survey. So for 8 times the initial cost, there is now an ocean going cat that is about to be pressed into service for research, inspirational and educational purposes.

The ocean is not flat and the wind is not light. 5 foot waves and 18 m vis, and 13 C - worth a go if you ignore the surface chop.
