Bron and Anth are in the studio while the weather stays outside. There are no segments on quilting. Today will be cold (14 max) so the dive report will be a doozie ! The abyss is the word of the day - describing a plain that is at least 3000m below the surface of the crappy weather.

In other (non-football) news, Australians are amongst the happiest in the world, and it is postulated that it is because of our beach culture - weather, and the beach is important and we are happier than our economic performance would suggest.

VECCI and Blue Wedge agree on improving clean energy, but continue to disagree on the need for a hole in the bottom of Port Phillip Bay.

And what (if anything) does the new Leader of the Opposition say ?

Kylie has purchased French Is - where Park Rangers are the highest authority in the land.

Deep sea fish populations have boomed in the last 10 years, driven by increasing food presence - or have we just looked properly

Andre has been measuring the the depth that little penguins dive. A 1 kg penguin recently dived 67m, which was the theoretical maximum the bird can dive - due to the natural buoyancy of the animal (which is why free divers use weights to sink to the depths they can).

The depth is measured by a small device (either the size of a lipstick or a lolly) that measures depth, acceleration, and frequency of wing beat. They have two speeds - fast and very fast. When they want to rise they normally just stop swimming and float. The one measured had to swim back to the surface.

Peter Corres - normally a detective writer, has made up a journal for Fletcher Christian, the dude that stole the Bounty from Bligh.

It was a difficult read initially, trying to separate fact from fiction. It turns out that is was mostly fiction (Dave was not sure about the arsenic eaters).

The book made David head off and do more research on the history to really try and work it all out. unfortunatly there was not much information about to help.

The book is about disaster after disaster, a fascinating story worth 3.5 - 4 stars.

The wind is blowing its ring off, and the diving is crap. Take your jetski out, and watch out for dolphins.
