Anth and Bron are back in the studio. The news is weird - apparently a new species of sea urchin was discovered on E-Bay! Apparently the urchin was sold to someone who could not identify the species, and consulted an expert who decided it was a new species. The Federal Environment Minister issued a press release asking people not to kill sting rays in revenge for the death of Steve Irwin. The genes that control limb growth in humans, are the same as those what control fish fin growth.

Darwin Awards - A bunch of guys called Daniel met untimely ends. The first was a stoner who was killed swimming with killer whale at Seaworld after hours. His family sued - claiming Seaworld made them too friendly. The second was also called Daniel and he was sucked into a blowhole in Hawaii after a lot of effort to avoid the signs. The last dude had no name (probably Daniel) who jumped out of his own boat for a swim - when he could not swim. The boat drifted away from him and nobody else in the boat could drive it.

Watch out for the other Marine Darwin awards.

Erich Fitzgerald is a PhD student in the School of GeoSciences at Monash and a Research Fellow at Museum Victoria. He was in the news recently with a whale skull while Radiothon was on, the mainstream media covered the discovery and analysis of the skull of Janjucetus hunderi, a 25 million year old fossil whale. How did a fossil whale skull that changes whale evolution theory come to be found in the late 1990's.

Brett has been diving his brains out in the last week - cavorting with a whale in 8m of water off Queencliff. Diving is great - get out and dive.
