Anth is back from Pt Fairy, with both the kids intact and a fine storm to make it wet enough to be in a small tent.

Word of the day - Pogonopheron - "The bearded ones" worm like things that live in the mud.

On the Games fount - how hard can it be to get an interview with the people who did the fish on the Ear. Well 5 different people were "ofishially" contacted, but they wouldn't talk - for no apparent reason.

Anth has had a chance to go past them in a boat - and the detail is great. Watch out for the displays on the hour after dark.

The logic is a bit strange, both Canada and Kiribati represented by the fish species they are driving into extinction !! England has the roach (a pest everywhere it has been introduced).

Australia's creature is the short finned eel - in the Yarra. Remember back a year when hundreds of them floated to the surface - dead.

The traditional duck race is on again this year along with the community festival including market days and even a photo exhibition. The tai chi has started for the day, the food stalls are starting up, tours of the Bluff are on before the bands.

The duck race starts at about 1:30 where people get to sponsor a plastic duck as they float in on the tide. It is down by the seachange bridge - just look out for the giant fake poo..(don't ask - just think about where the real ones end up)

A barnacle was found on the courthouse in Russell St, that turned out to be a rather old fossil (about 20 million years). After an enormous amount of red tape to get permission to chisel it off a heritage listed building, the pressure was on to get it off in the full gaze of the media. When it came of, it was the size of 2 dollar coin, and turned out to be a new species, and the name is yet to be revealed - but will involve law courts, the difficulty in getting off.

Brett is back from a break. The swell is massive so it can be a bit unpleasant. The vis is about 9m. In NSW last week, Brett complained the vis was only 4 miles, and the temperature was 40 C (here it is below 20). He also saw 40 grey nurse sharks - allegedly 20% of the whole NSW population.
