Listener Contributions
From Adam Edmonds
Great Limerick competition of June, 2000
Tacky Marine Souvenir Competition

Over the last few years we have had a large number of contributions from you - the listener - to the show. We have compiled this page to show off the contributions, talents and wares that have crossed our desk as part of these competitions. Here are two topical ones to get started.

Before and After Video of the trial dredging (Big file - broadband recommended - 50mb)

Life in the Antarctic

Have a browse, and if you think you can do better - let us know. Send us an email with your photos, drawings, sketches or etchings of things marine or with a marine bent. We will endeavour to put them on this page for all to see. You could post it to us (details on the contact us page), but if you want it back, please include a stamped self addressed envelope.

Thanks to all our listeners who entered. You are SO creative, that it inspires us!

1st Prize - Yr 11 Biology Class, Melbourne High School
There was a young starfish called Terry,
Who hitched a ride in a ferry.
He was a boarder
In the ship's ballast water
And now his numbers are scary.

2nd Prize - Marco from East Geelong
The oyster is a fairly drab sight
Sitting on the same rock day and night
Though seemingly bland
The pearls are grand
And what a culinary delight

3rd Prize
Two battered fillets of Mustelus antarcticus
Flake is for lovers who aren't meretricious
A deep-sea lot
In an unguinous pot
The basking humans are toothily lubricous

Encouragement Awards
Christine for Cyberspace
(to be read with a Pam Ayers accent)
The hooded plover
How I love 'er
With 'er speedy legs
But why does she not seek no cover
When she lays 'er eggs.

Nimal from Werribee
There once was a branch that went nudi
His friends all said he was rudi
To be naked
His friends all called he
A lewdi, ruid, nudi!

Karen from Cyberland
Harry was a hairy crab
A hermit known to dress quite drab
A haircut he did seek
New clothes made him look chic
Now Harry's no longer drab, but fab!

And from our very own Poet laureate, Dr Michael Holloway from the University of Sydney:
Said the parents of a wayard young scallop
Who was inclined to behave like a trollop
"Stay away from that flathead,
Or you'll end up battered,
Served with chips and a tartare sauce dollop.

The Tacky Marine Souvenir Competition was run in 1998 and was a huge success with listeners delving deep into their (or Aunty and Uncles?!) most tacky treasure boxes and sending us some wonderful photos. Here are the 1st and 2nd prize winners for you to enjoy. Thanks to everyone who entered.
